The deadline for the receipt of the student application & CD is January 19, 2012.

Compact Disc Instructions for Students
To apply, students must submit an application and a compact disc with 3 to 5 minutes of playing. You may perform any music you wish - a solo, an etude or study, a scale, or even a melodic excerpt from a piece of band music (standard solos and etudes are best.) You should consult with your band director or private teacher for help in choosing the piece(s) you can play well. Percussionists are asked to perform on three instruments: snare drum (first on the tape), a keyboard percussion instrument - if possible (second), and on timpani (last). Percussionists who only play one instrument, just snare drum - for example, should not be discouraged from sending in an application. Other recording instructions include:
1. Any type of recorder will do - use anything from a computer to a portable unit with a built-in microphone.
2. Before you begin to play, state your name, instrument, grade & school.
3. Label the CD with your name, instrument, grade & school.
4. Only one player per CD. Recordings will not be returned.
5. You may take several tries, if you wish, at recording a fine performance. If you make mistakes, just start over from the beginning.
6. Mail the recording and the application form together. Use a padded envelope or other packing material to protect the contents from damage.
7. The application deadline is Thursday, January 19, 2012. Notification will be made via mail by February 1st.
